Royce Aqua 22 measurement parameters
Portable wastewater measurement parameters.
Compare MLSS, total suspended solids and sludge blanket depth measurements for routine wastewater checks with the Royce Aqua 22.

Choose the measurement your process needs.
Choose the measurement that answers your process question. MLSS describes suspended-solids concentration in mixed liquor; TSS describes suspended-solids concentration in other process samples. Both are reported in mg/L. Sludge blanket depth locates the settled-sludge interface below the liquid surface and is reported in metres.
Mixed Liquor Suspended Solids (MLSS)
Measure suspended biomass and solids concentration in aeration tanks to support routine activated sludge process checks.
Total Suspended Solids (TSS)
Check suspended-solids concentration in wastewater streams and treatment stages with a portable infrared absorption measurement.
Sludge Blanket Depth
Locate the sludge-water interface in clarifiers and settlement tanks using hydrostatic depth sensing from 0 to 10 metres.

| Parameter and range | What the reading tells you and where it is used |
|---|---|
| MLSS 0–20,000 mg/L | Suspended-solids concentration in mixed liquor. Used for routine checks in aeration basins and activated sludge processes. |
| Total suspended solids 0–20,000 mg/L | Suspended-solids concentration in process liquid. Used to compare wastewater streams, return activated sludge and treatment stages. |
| Sludge blanket depth 0–10 m | Depth of the sludge-water interface below the liquid surface. Used for clarifier and settlement-tank checks. |
The ranges above are stated in the PMA Royce Aqua 22 brochure. Confirm sensor configuration and critical application requirements with PMA. Portable process readings do not replace required laboratory analysis or compliance sampling.
Make your tank-side readings comparable
Concentration and depth answer different questions. Use MLSS measurement when checking mixed liquor in an aeration basin, TSS measurement when comparing solids concentration in process streams, and sludge blanket depth measurement when checking the interface in a clarifier.
Take readings at agreed sampling positions and consistent stages of the operating cycle. Record the location and time so that changes can be compared with other process observations. See how the Aqua 22 works for the measurement principles and a repeatable field workflow.
